Cost drivers

What drives the cost

  • Number of systems — a flow inside Microsoft 365 is cheaper than one that connects several outside apps.
  • Exceptions — the more ways a process can go wrong, the more design and testing it needs.
  • Approvals and branching — multi-step logic takes longer to build and test.
  • Licensing — premium connectors may need extra Microsoft licences (see Do you need Power Automate Premium?).
  • Documentation and handover — cheap builds often skip this, which costs more later.

Buyer tips

How to avoid overpaying

  • Ask for a fixed price after a short assessment, rather than open-ended hours.
  • Check whether the assessment fee is credited against the build.
  • Confirm the build includes exception handling, monitoring and documentation.
  • Make sure everything is built in your accounts and licences, so you are not locked in.
  • Ask what ongoing support costs — and whether you actually need it.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How much does a Power Automate consultant cost per hour in Australia?

Hourly rates are commonly around $150–$250+ ex GST. Many providers prefer fixed-price projects for builds and use hourly rates for small changes and troubleshooting.

How much does a single automated workflow cost?

A simple workflow typically costs about $2,500–$4,000 ex GST; multi-system workflows with approvals commonly run $5,000–$12,000.

Is a paid automation assessment worth it?

Usually, if it produces a mapped workflow, a baseline, a licence check and a fixed quote. Look for one that is credited against the build. At PulseForge it is $990, credited in full against a build signed within 30 days of the assessment report.

Do I need to pay for Power Automate licences as well?

Many workflows run on the standard connectors already included in Microsoft 365 business plans. Premium connectors need extra licences, which should be quoted before you commit.
