Do you need Power Automate Premium?
Short answer: often not. Microsoft 365 Business Basic, Standard and Premium include Power Automate with standard connectors such as Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive and Planner. You need Power Automate Premium (A$22.40 per user per month) or a Process licence (A$224.50 per flow per month, ex GST, annual billing) only when a flow uses premium or custom connectors, or certain advanced features.
What Microsoft 365 already includes
- Cloud flows using standard connectors — Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Planner, Forms, Approvals and many others.
- Automated, scheduled and button-triggered flows within those standard connectors.
- Note: “Business Premium” is a Microsoft 365 plan name — it does not include Power Automate Premium connectors.
When you need more
| Licence | Price (ex GST, annual billing) | When it makes sense |
|---|---|---|
| Power Automate Premium | A$22.40 per user / month | A few people build or run flows that use premium or custom connectors |
| Power Automate Process | A$224.50 per flow (bot) / month | One important flow serves many people — license the flow instead of every user |
Licensing rules change, and who needs a licence can depend on who benefits from a flow. Check current Microsoft terms or ask us to check your specific case in the assessment.
How to avoid licence surprises
- Design with standard connectors first — many common workflows never need Premium.
- Get licence costs quoted before the build is approved.
- Keep licences in your own Microsoft tenant and billing.
- Review licences yearly as your flows change.
In every PulseForge Automation Assessment ($990, credited to your build) we check exactly which licences your workflows need and include the cost in the quote.
